HOW TO REGISTER A NEW BUSINESS

1. Go to ezbiz.ssm.com.my to register a new user ID. 
Upon submission, you will receive an email from the EzBiz Administrator acknowledging your registration and asking you to go to the nearest SSM office with your IC within 14 days to do verification and activate your user ID. 
You can also create this user ID at the SSM office as they have many computer terminals for the public to use.
Tip: For partnership, only one partner needs to register for the user ID. Each partner will need to fill up an individual section under Owner’s Information. Both or all partners need to be present.

2. Go to the SSM office nearest to you with your IC and go to the registration/activation counter. Inform the officer that you have already registered a user ID so he or she knows you are there to do a verification and activate the user ID. If you haven’t pre-registered an ID, you will be directed to one of the computers there to register a new user ID and come back to the counter for verification and activation. The verification process is very quick – your IC will be inserted into a card reader and you need to place your thumb on the scanner. You will be given a User Guide which will be helpful for the rest of the registration process, so please use it.

3. Right after this, go to the name check counter (which is usually right next to the registration counter). Fill up your choice of names on the form given. The name check and the approval to use the trade name is clubbed together. Therefore, the officer will let you know immediately if the name(s) can be used.
You will definitely be pleased with yourself for going prepared with a list of names which you had already brainstormed for during Branding in Section 6 as you will need to fill up more information after this.
Tip: There is no provision by SSM that allows for change of business name. Therefore, you need to get the name right. The only way for you to get another business name is to register for a new business.
This applies for business names only. Company names can be changed. If for some reason you don’t know the difference between a business and company, click here.

4. By this time, you would have received another email from the EzBiz Administrator that your user ID has been activated. Log in to ebiz.ssm.com.my with your user ID.

5. The first page is the Main Information page and you will need to fill up details of the trade name, the main address and mailing address of the business. Use one of the trade names that has been approved.

6. On the next page is the Branches page. Fill in the address of your branch if you have any. Each branch will cost RM5 per year. If you don’t have any branches, just click ‘Next’.

7. You’re now on the Business Code page. You can search for your industry code within the site by typing in the keyword in the search box and selecting from the search results.

8. Now, still on the same page, you will need to fill in the description of your business. The description should not be difficult to fill in if you have already done the steps in Strategy & Branding in Section 4 & 5. You’ll want to fill out this part as well and as accurately as possible as this information will be shown on your Business Information page. 
Tip: Anyone can search for your business and request for your business profile through SSMeinfo.my (the same site you searched for available business names) or mydata-ssm.com.my for a fee of RM15.30.
A business profile shows details of the business owner(s), its address, date of incorporation and the business information.

9. The next page is the Owners page. Here, you need to fill up your partner’s details, if you have any. Every partner’s name will be listed here with an IC number. If you had followed the steps above and did the verification process, there should be a ‘Verified’ in the verification status column next to every name. You will not be able to proceed with the business registration if every name doesn’t have a verified status. If so, you will need to go to the counter and repeat step 2.

10. Now you’ve reached Fee & Declaration page. Select the number of years you’d like to register the business for and the corresponding fee will be displayed accordingly. Tick the declaration box and preview all the information you have filled up to ensure that it is correct. Click ‘Previous’ if you need to make amendments, or click ‘Submit Payment’ if all the information is correct. On the Payment page, you have the option to make payment online or over the counter. If you make the payment online, you will receive a payment notification e-mail from eGHL and another email from EzBiz Administrator with a receipt for payment. After you’ve made the payment, submit the application to register your business. You will receive another email from EzBiz Administrator to inform you that your application has been submitted and is being processed.

11. Within minutes, you will receive another email from EzBiz Administrator informing you that your business has been successfully registered. Now, you can download your Certificate of Business Registration and Business Info by logging in to ebiz.ssm.com.my.
Select ‘My Business Services’, ‘New Business Registration’, ‘Approved/Reject’ tab, ‘Action’, ‘Download Certificate’ and ‘Download Business Info’.

Congratulations! You have now successfully registered your business and you’re officially a business owner.
The easiest part is done and you are now on the path of entrepreneurship, where the real action begins.
